Nature Therapy: A collection of poetry based on
the most inspiring passages from Scott Stillman’s
works.
A blend of raw beauty and heartbreaking
vulnerability, Stillman's poetry is a profound
exploration of what it means to feel deeply.
Each verse guides us toward a deeper
understanding of our place in the universe,
and the healing potential that nature offers
the weary soul.
"we are born with playfulness—
and play we will
until we’re taught that life is serious
there are very important things to be done
and we must focus not on the present
but on the future
happiness is stolen from us
and projected to an imaginary place
that we can never reach
we become lost in the illusion
that happiness resides in the future
a practical joke
we’ve played on ourselves"

“our mind-dominated world
is one of straight lines
boxes, and grids
every last scrap of awareness
sucked out by an ever-expanding army
of glowing rectangles
at times when i close my eyes
they are all i can see
i can feel it happening to myself
walking down the street
a zombie among the walking dead
who are all of these people?
what are they doing?
who am i?
have we all forgotten?
then i know it’s time
to leave this world—
just temporarily
taking sanctuary
to the mountains and deserts
back of beyond, where the pavement ends
to wilderness, the gateway to the soul”

“i’ll never take for granted the privilege to walk
one foot in front of the other
in the direction of my own choosing
the opportunity to get lost
so that i might find myself again
each time i’m surprised at what i find
wilderness is my church
my teacher, my mentor, my psychologist
my mother, my savior
the school of life
where we learn not from books
nor words, nor lectures
a classroom where we learn
not from that which thinks
but that which knows
the lesson is truth itself
i can no more explain this
than i can explain the sparkle in a baby’s eyes
or falling in love for the first time
or the agony of heartbreak
the loss of a child
the death of a dream
good, bad, or ugly—
truth is undeniable
it cannot be run from
nor grasped by the mind
only experienced by the soul
truth is what i come out here to find”
End of sample.
